Shocking Sugar Statistics

This afternoon 4.2 made some shocking scientific discoveries. As part of our science topic 'Animals (including humans)' we have been looking at the impact of diet on health.
Today, our focus was on sugar. We began by deciding which of these facts about sugar are true, and which are false. We were quite surprised by some of the results, take a look below.
Next, we took a look at the nutritional information on some of our favourite snacks and measured out the quantity of sugar in each.

We discussed our results and compared the sugar in each of the bags. We were absolutely shocked to find that in just 250ml of Pepsi there were 28g of sugar- a whole teaspoon MORE than our guideline daily amount of 24g.
Take a look at some of our shocking results below.
We were horrified to discover that these 'healthy' porridge oats had 15g of sugar per 40g portion!

20g of sugar in just one Capri-Sun carton!

This was certainly an afternoon to remember.

Roman Experience Day

On the last day of term, year 4 had lots of fun commemorating the end of the their Roman Britain topic by taking part in a whole day packed full of Roman experiences.
This included using our fantastic shields to create the battle formations which the Romans were famous for.
 Ready to march.
Mr Murphy even joined in with the fun.
 The Anti-Calvary Formation.
Hamza even made a start to sketching out the formations as if planning out his very own invasion.

This was followed by some Roman games including Roman numerals snap, Roman top trumps (as created by the children!) and some tricky word searches to test our knowledge.

In the afternoon, we were able to enjoy a Roman feast and even had fun competing in a quiz as a whole year group.

Easter Concert

Just before the end of the Easter holidays all of year 4 and the elective performers from years 5 and 6 put on a fantastic concert for our parents.
Here are some videos of our performances.

Egg-cellent Eggstravaganza

Before the Easter break, we were lucky enough to see all of the wonderful eggs the children had prepared at hope for our competition.
Here are 4.2's brilliant designs created to celebrate the Queen's upcoming 90th Birthday celebrations.

A Dazzling Debate!

Take a look at our Queen Mary Masterminds showing off all that they know about the reign of Queen Mary I.
Their debate is considering our historical key question: 'Did Queen Mary Deserve the Nickname 'Bloody Mary'?'
Listen to both sides of the argument and decide what you think.

Harvington Hall

Today we were lucky enough to experience a fantastic trip at Harvington Hall in Kiddiminster. This trip was connected to our current history topic, Tudor Monarchs.

The day started off with smiles on the coach!

When we arrived, we were greeted by our knowledgeable tour guides.
The first part of our day was a tour around the 500 year old house.
Here we are finding out more about Abigail Packington, daughter of the original owners of the house, and Nicholas Owen who built the priest hides used throughout the Elizabethan Era to hide from the Queen's authorities!
Our first peek inside a priest hide...
We wouldn't like to have to hide-out down there!
Here we are in the main dining room, where the wealthy owners of the house and their visitors would have enjoyed feasts and dances together.
Next, we moved on to Mr Dodd's Library within the house. Here, we were delighted to discover a very well concealed hide.

Here are some of us coming back into the library after experiencing what it was like inside the hide.

All happy to have discovered such an interesting and well-built hide.
Finally, we explored the nursery
 and the chapel.

After lunch, we got to experience what it would have been like to be both rich and poor in the Tudor times.

Here we are trying our luck to earn jobs in the kitchens from Master Arthur.

Master Arthur showed us how a well in the kitchen bought up water for the kitchens... from the sewage-filled moat!

We also got to see what it would have been like to have been very wealthy and to have attended a dance with The Packingtons at Harvington Hall.

We all really enjoyed our trip to Harvington Hall today and appreciated the opportunity to learn lots more about the Tudor period. We will certainly have plenty to write in our thank you letters tomorrow!
